Williston, ND (KEYZ) Voter turnout Tuesday has been steady and brisk at the Williston ARC where residents are taking advantage of a beautiful day and no lines to get their votes in early, before the expected afternoon rush has them waiting in lines out the door and down 18th Street. KEYZ News Radio talked with some of the voters explaining why they are excited about exercising their right to vote.
“It’s the American way! Vote. Get out! Do it!,’ said one Williston man who said the mere act of voting is sometimes more important than the issues at hand, although he wouldn’t say if that applied to this election. Twenty-two year old Jackson is out to vote for his favorite school board candidate. “It is definitely important to be part of the community and get your viewpoint out there,” he says.
“Being part of the community,” quips another voter as he ducks into the ARC to quickly cast his lunch time ballot. “Yeah it’s our civil duty I guess,” said another women using her lunchtime to cast her vote. “plus there are people that died so that can do it, good enough?” she asked rhetorically as she rushed to the ballot box.
For most who live in Williston, the very opportunity to vote and give their voice to the process is as enticing as the issues and candidates themselves. Attendants are bracing for the traditional after work rush. Polls are open through 7 pm tonight. Results will be aired tomorrow on the Mondak Morning News and on this website.
