New Town, ND (KEYZ) Officials with the North Dakota Highway Patrol identify the driver killed yesterday north of New Town when his Dodge RAM rolled over on Hwy 1804. The victim, 23 year Darren Cooley of Kooskia Idaho was killed when he was thrown out of the vehicle, after he failed to negotiate a curve leading to the crash and rollover. The crash remains under investigation by the NDHP. The drivers name will be released pending family notification.
A new DOT report shows that in 2017, there were over fifteen thousand crashes in North Dakota and 116 of those resulted in death. Many of those deaths due to drivers or passengers not wearing their seatbelts and getting ejected from their vehicles. The High way patrol reminding anyone who gets into a motorized vehicle , the law states that if you are under the age of 18 years old you must wear your seatbelt wherever you sit in the car. If a child is not wearing their seatbelt, law enforcement can pull you over and give you a ticket. Those who are 18 years and older are required to wear a seat belt in the front seat.
