Disturbance Call Leads to Scene of Child Neglect and Abuse

Williston, ND (KEYZ)  -- An intoxicated woman who tried to leave the Williston Applebee's Sunday night without paying led police to a scene of child abuse. Appplebee's staff called police at about 7:30 Sunday night about a disturbance involving an intoxicated woman. They arrived to find 24-year-old Loralee Waxcha Smith, who had been arguing with the staff, who accused her of not paying her bill and trying to leave. After a brief conversation, officers convinced Smith to settle her tab, and as she appeared to be a bit under the influence, offered her a ride home.

The officers could have never guessed what they were to have found upon escorting Smith to her door.  They were met by three young children aged 8, 7 and 4, bleeding and with dried blood, cuts and bruises all over their bodies. Smith faces charges of child abuse and drug possession.
