Williston, ND (KEYZ) A key facet of online retail giant Amazon's attractiveness is no doubt its ability to deliver goods, with lightning speed, right to a purchaser's doorstep. That rapidity of delivery is made possible with the aid of 21st century technology in the form of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), more commonly referred to as "drones." With the announcement this week that Amazon is breaking ground for a one-million-square-foot distribution center in Fargo, Willistion's mayor tells News Radio should the online retail giant decide to establish a foothold in the Bakken, we'll be ready.

"We have just authorized TrainND to start a program to train pilots of drones without direct sight. That program will becoming to Williston."

Williston Mayor Howard Klug breaking that news exclusively on the Mondak Morning News Thursday says the STAR Fund has just allocated money along with TrainND to purchase the program and secure an instructor; the plan is set to go before the City Commission on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

The mayor says he anticipates the program will be up and running by the first of the year, making Williston one of the first places in North Dakota to groom pilots for flying unmanned aerial vehicles, a.k.a. drones.
