WILLISTON (KEYZ) - A man who attempted to escape police early Tuesday morning faces multiple felony charges.

Williston police signaled Dustin Nathan Panasuk to stop at around 3:12am after noticing a headlight was out. Panasuk continued to drive, speeding out of city limits, which led Williams County Officials to join in. Later that morning, officers used a spike strip, which was successful in stopping the vehicle.

According to an affadavit, Panasuk refused to leave the vehicle, instead continuing to spin the deflated tires, which led to hot rubber and debris to fly into the air. The vehicle also caught on fire due to the continued spinning.

Fire and Rescue extinguished the flames and officers eventually used a taser to remove Panasuk from the vehicle, requiring medical attention. At the hospital, officials report that Panasuk attempted to spit on staff. When officers came to transport him to the Williams County Correctional Center, Panasuk continued to resist, taking officers nearly 10 minutes to subdue him.

Panasuk faces charges of Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest, Class C felonies. He also is charged with fleeing a peace officer, a Class A Misdemeanor. Assessors with the City of Williston state road damages is estimated to exceed $3,000.
