WILLISTON (KEYZ) - As Williston Public Schools concludes another school year, the Food Service Director wants parents and students to be aware that they will be able to pickup a sack lunch to-go this Summer.

Lynelle Johnson tells NEWS RADIO that the "Grab and Go" meals - which started during the COVID-19 pandemic - will continue on into June and July. Five locations that have previously served food will continue to do so until the end of June. After that, she says while the program will continue, but not all places will be serving. She notes more information will be coming in the future.

The 5 locations are Bakken Elementary, McVay Elementary, Hagan Elementary, the Housing Authority Park, and Williston Garden Apartments. Any student 18 and under will be allowed to take a meal Monday thru Friday, which will include breakfast as well.

While the summer lunch program has been done in Williston before, Johnson says some things are different. Per USDA guidelines, students will not be allowed to gather together due to COVID-19. Johnson says students do not have to be present to obtain meals, using the honor system in order to provide additional safety and flexibility.

"A parent can stop and pick up meals for however many students they have," she explains.

As one can expect due to the move to distance learning, Johnson says they have seen more students this year compared to previous ones. She's been told it provides a sense of normalcy for students.

"Students enjoy seeing their normal staff and lunch ladies," Johnson says.

Williston Garden Apartments will serve from 11-11:30a; Bakken, Hagan, and McVay will serve from 11:30a-12:30p; and The Housing Authority Park will serve from 11:45a-12:30p.
