Williston, ND (KEYZ)  Williston's new liquor ordinance cleared it's final hurdle last night during the latest city commission meeting where it was given a pass by all of the commissioners, therefore removing the cap on the total number of liquor licenses issued by the city.  The types of liquor licenses are now streamlined.  Mayor Howard Klug says this could encourage new and diverse businesses in Williston.
"If someone came in with an idea, for example, a wine bar which is popular in other parts of the country or a different kind of bar we would have those categories available for these people so that we wouldn't have to rewrite the ordinance all the time," says Klug.
There's also a requirement for camera systems to be installed at liquor selling establishments. The law includes a grant to the Upper Missouri District Health Unit to make sure every liquor establishment has a standardized ID scanner. If a business has met all the city's requirements and passes a background check, then it pick up it's license as soon as today.
